The Events list reports: Device not configured (oem42.inf) Device install requested Device not configured (oem42.inf) Device installed (ich78usb.inf) It keeps doing this every day. From time to time my computer slows considerably. Under search I locate *.inf files, and find from 15,000 to 30,000 oem files with 0 bytes. Wher do they come from ? By deleting them the computer again operates OK, but the time spent in deleting all those files is frustrating. 3) Type: notepad.exe C:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf - This will bring up a hidden inf file in notepad. 4) In notepad, click Edit on the toolbar. 5) Click Replace. 6) In the "Find What" text area type HIDE 7) Leave the "Replace With" text area blank. 8) Click Replace All. 9) Exit out of the Replace window. 10) Save the file.
